05 December 2018 An Evening Gathering in Commemoration of Nikolay Gerasimov 13 December, the National Library of the Komi Republic holds an evening gathering in commemoration of curator and friend of the library, vice deputy chairman of the Komi Council of Ministers, minister of Investment, Industry and Transport of the region Nikolay N. Gerasimov who passed away 2 November 2018 at the age of 63 years old.
An outstanding statesman, Nikolay Gerasimov held the title of the Honoured Worker of the Komi Republic and Honored Geologist of the Russian Federation. He was a seasoned industrialist and manager, professional mountaineer, explorer, writer, and poet. For many years he was a dedicated friend of the National Library, for the last two years heading the Board of Trustees.
His colleagues will join the gathering, including first deputy chair of the Komi Government Larisa Maksimova, deputy chair of the Komi State Council Valentina Zhideleva, leaders of the Komi branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Komi National Library and the Komi National Gallery. Friends and colleagues will share their memories of Mr Gerasimov knowing him as high-class professional, talented manager, unassuming and warm-hearted person.
As many geologists working in field trips, Nikolay Gerasimov had a romantic vision of things. He appears so in his poetry that will be recited at the gathering by theater actors. Specially for the event, the library will display books where the geologist-poet was published. The exhibition will also embrace newspapers and magazines with articles about Nikolay Gerasimov and volumes of books that he personally donated to the library. The exhibition will open another facet of his personality - a generous patron of culture. Nikolay Gerasimov had a passion for books. He would not only buy them in abundance during his travels and give them as gifts, but he also supported publishing of books - his poet-friends, researchers who study the history of the North, and geologists. We are going to present the publications that were made possible owing to Nikolay Nikolaevich. He wrote a preface to most of these books himself.
Everyone who knew and respected Nikolay Gerasimov, please be invited to join us on 13 December.
The meeting begins at 5:00 pm.
Needless to say, admission is free.
