Alles Familie!

22 October the National Library of the Komi Republic presented a mobile exhibition of illustrations, posters and books – All Family! (Alles Familie!)

The exhibition was created and lent by the International Youth Library in Munich and will travel to other Russian libraries making the first stop in Syktyvkar.

High-school students from the German Language School were invited to see the exhibition and discuss books and illustrations based on stories about the modern families.

Through an association game, the students shared their conceptions of family values and family problems. Although the visitors were amused by mostly comic artistic illustrations, they were also ready to talk about more serious issues: single-parent family, divorce, alienation of children and parents in the family.

The books displayed at the exhibition introduced the students to contemporary German authors writing for children.

They agreed that the exhibition manifests a child’s inner world, their dreams, inspirations, and uncomfortable experiences.

The book of the students’ choice to read aloud was Die Raben Rosa by Helga Bansch.

The exhibition was open for three weeks and was attended by more than a hundred children and parents.

The Komi National Library would like to thank the International Youth Library in Munich and Goethe Institute in Saint-Petersburg for sharing the exhibition and adapting the collection of posters to the Russian audience.

Next, the exhibition will head to Tomsk – to another Russian library in the north.
