16 October 2018 Insights into the Barents Culture Students of the Syktyvkar State University will meet writer, editor, and radio journalist from Sweden Kenneeth Mikko to discuss the past, present, and future of cultural cooperation in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region.
Kenneth Mikko has been involved in the Barents Region projects from an early stage and has collaborated with Russian institutions of culture in Karelia, Arkhangelsk and Komi. He will discuss international relations in culture, share his personal reflections on Komi and talk about the websites he managed, his books and publications.
His pioneer book about the Komi Republic - Komi by Motorcycle - was among the first books to be published in English that was addressed not to scholars, but to a wider audience. And he thinks that Komi is still a terra incognita for many European people.
Examples of the questions that we will discuss:
Is there a cold war in a cold world?
What is "hybrid culture" in the European North?
The meetings are scheduled for
- Wednesday, 17 October, 18:00, and
- Thursday, 18 October, 16:30.
