About the Republic of Komi in English

Two newly published books have joined the collection of the foreign language literature of the National Library of Komi. Both were created by the team of the Komi Republic Publishing House for the English-speaking readers.

Komi Highlights is an activity book for school children studying the English language at pre-intermediate level. Written by an experienced teacher of English and Spanish Elvira Kagantsova. It offers texts, exercises and fun activities with a focus on grammar and vocabulary - all around the topics related to the Republic of Komi. The book has gathered interesting trivia about the national symbols, nature and wildlife, history and modern days, famous people and mythological heroes presented in language studying materials. Colourful illustrations create an effect of a children's magazine.

The Marvellous Republic of Komi is a hardbound deluxe edition with a recognizable Komi ornament on the cover made from wool, deerskin and fur. It is a collection of essays that introduce the republic as a unique region, both in terms of its natural abundance and cultural identity. The essays are compiled from different sources, adapted to a general audience, and edited by Natalia Melnikova. the The book serves as a popular guide to anyone who would like to get the republic's portrait in a nutshell. Richly illustrated by photos, the book is a mix of a gift album and a textbook for readers of a wide age range, from children to adults.
