Komi Publishing House Launches Book Project

A partner of the Komi National Library, the Komi Republic Publishing House, has launched a public project with a goal to create a book about the republic in English, Komi Highlights. This will be an activity textbook for middle school students studying English.

The activity book will collect most interesting facts about the Komi Republic: nature and people, important events and popular festivals, folklore and mythology. It will also offer teaching materials and family activities for studying English in a fun way. The underlying idea is to create a textbook that could provide stories about Komi in English and at the same time serve as a guidebook for foreign tourists.

2,000 copies will be printed in full colour in the summer of 2020. Currently the project leaders are raising money through a crowd funding platform - Planet.ru. The money will be used to design the layout of the book. All the printing costs will be born by the publisher. You can donate a small amount to the project and order a copy of the book right now.

The Komi Republic Publishing House has a long history. The first printing press in Komi was started in 1906 by Zosima Slednikov. The small pressroom produced tax forms, business cards, trading accounts, theological books and patriotic leaflets. Now the company occupies the area of 7,500 square meters and does not only satisfy the republic's needs in printing services, but also publishes fiction and non-fiction literature.
