Sámi National Day in Syktyvkar

On 6 February, on Sámi National Day, the National Library of the Komi Republic invited students specializing in regional studies to join an online book presentation made by the Murmansk Regional Scientific Library.

The presentation focused on a recent research and new publications by the Murmansk Centre for People of the North. Viktoria Bakula from the Murmansk Arctic University presented her study on ethnic and linguistic features of the spiritual vocabulary of Sámi people living in Russia. Writer Nadezhda Bolshakova told about two collections of stories, Lovozero Miracles and Wonderful Things at Hand.

Students and professors of the Komi Republic Academy of Civil Service and Management discussed the old and new realities of indigenous peoples in Russia. Many of the students are doing their undergraduate research on legal and economic issues of Finno-Ugric and Northern ethnic groups.

The online book tour was accompanied by a book exhibition dedicated to Sámi culture. The National Library of the Komi Republic presented a collection of fiction and non-fiction editions published in Russia and abroad.

The event was organized by the Department of Foreign language Literature of the Komi National Library.
