Komi Literature Reading Impressions Award

On 19 May, the National Library of the Komi Republic held an award ceremony for the Komi Republic Reading Impressions Contest.

The 2019 contest collected 255 works in different media from 20 municipalities. The participants are aged from 4 to 72 years old.

Based on books by Komi authors, the contestants created essays, letters, reader's diaries, scripts, posters, postcards, book trailers, video and audio presentations reflecting their impressions of the Komi literature.

Many of the presented works were created in the Komi language, emphasizing the importance of the national literature for native speakers.

The awards covered 6 nominations:

  • literary revelation;
  • book palette;
  • book broadcasting;
  • rediscovering Kuratov;
  • my mother tongue;
  • book scenario.

The best works are exhibited in the main hall of the library.

The participants of the contest were greeted by Chair of the Komi Writers Union Elena Kozlova, popular children's writer Elena Gabova, poet and translator Alyona Yeltsova, and spokesperson for the Ministry of National Policy Mira Chuyashkova.

The award ceremony also included a presentation of the project dedicated to 180th birthday anniversary of first Komi poet Ivan Kuratov - Menam Muza Video Marathon. The video based on one poem in Komi has united 15 participants from different countries and regions of Russia reading the poem in their native language.

The 6-minute video in 15 languages is a tribute to Kuratov's ardent support of the Komi language and his idea of preserving minor indigenous languages in national literature.

The original videos provided by the Finno-Ugric libraries and individual participants can be found in YouTube by #menammuzakuratov180.
